Weekend Zuoz
For the twentieth time I had coordinated the teachers and students at the summer camp in Zuoz, and here I was heading there again for probably the 16 th time. I missed a couple during Covid when I stayed put in New Zealand.
The beautiful Walensee always looks so inviting, but can also be treacherous when sudden storms hit. Apparently a couple of SUP users had been drowned there last week.
It is always so wonderful to take the little red train into and along the Engadine valley, only to be met by two of my best friends, Marco and Dennis at Zuoz station , then whisked off to Samedan for drinks - agreat start to what ended up a very busy and marvellous week.
Oh how I love this view from the Lyceum. I never tire of it. I feel at home.
First night, a visit to the prison!
Now a very cosy and enjoyable place for a drink with the teachers. It’s so wonderful to see them all again.
Next day, market day in the pretty little village of Le Punt. The weather was magnificent, and although warm, it was very pleasant thanks to the altitude there. Needless to say, with my fear of heights, I didn’t get hoisted up on the fireman’s ladder. However, I was a little tempted because the view must have been terrific, but having watched two groups slowly heading upwards on the ever-extending ladder, I chickened out. Probably very sensibly!
Next stop, jazz concert at the old fort of Guardaval, just above Madulain.
The hundred metre altitude difference did seem extreme in the heat, but it was well worth the effort. It was a great concert and wonderful spot to be with so many keen concert goers.
I didn’t climb up to the fort, but will try to come back another time.
After a nice quiet drink at my favourite restaurant in Madulain, I took a direct bus to St Moritz to another Jazz concert. Wow, it was phenomenal with the most incredible singer, Gwyn Jay Allen and Alex Wilson on the piano. Both were amazing. If you’d closed your eyes, you’d really have thought Louis Armstrong was singing.
The concert was so phenomenal that I went back the next day for the whole morning. A marvellous way to enjoy a weekend!
After, Dennis, his father and I went to Livigno, in Italy. It’s okay as a ski town but I prefer the Engadine. However, it’s apparently worth going there simply for the cheaper petrol! And booze.
