The Welsh Coast

With the heatwave now behind us, we could enjoy cooler days and long midday walks along the truly magnificent Welsh Coast., The skies are a little overcast and there are occasional showers - normality returns! Annie and I had some great days together visiting some areas I had not really explored much before.  Our first day was in Porthcawl, a holiday town with fabulous coastal walks and views towards Devon and Cornwall across the Bristol Channel. The town itself is a bit run down but the blustery walk along the cliffs was wonderful. Next day we retraced our steps and got off at Newton, to walk through scrub to the lovely golden sands of Porthcawl beach, with the backdrop of dunes, and then to the Ogmore River. From there we went up river with its fantastic salt marshes to Candlestone, where we planned to follow a path back to Newton but ended up heading up to the top of the Merthyr Mawr dunes with breathtaking views over the different areas we had visited.  First, these beaut...
