Cagliari
I am not a great lover of cities, but Cagliari was small enough to get round easily from our appartment in the centre. Probably the most memorable thing for me was the unbelievable colour and size of the wisteria trees here. What magnificent splashes of purple they provided at monuments, roundabouts and tree-lined streets. Here next to the Bastione.was possibly the most photographed wisteria in Sardinia, if not the world! (See above) Looking down from one of the main entrances to the old city, we had a birdseyeview of the port area and the road we would later take to Chia. Piazza Costituzione is an extremely impressive staircase leading to the terrace of the Bastione. We looked up at the stairs and once more determined we would not climb up in the heat. However, as in Bosa, we found a much less demanding slope partially in shade, and up we went. Thankfully! Fabulous views and undoubtedly the start of the real old city.
