Madrid day 3
So, while Sergio had to work until afternoon on Sunday, I enjoyed the calm and, in the shade, cool of the lovely Botanical Gardens in Madrid. It was super hot in the sun, so the gardens were the perfect place to be.
I loved these wild garlic flower heads. Such a vivid show of colour.
And this biotop brought back fantastic memories of the ponds Dennis and I had visited in LaGuardia. If one looks carefully you can see a number of frogs on the water lily leaves. They are so well camouflaged, but so noisy!
This area reminded me of home.
There were some fabulous plants in the greenhouse.
And a New Zealand section even!
The highlight on my own was certainly revisiting the Parc de Retiro. It’s stunning and so popular. The queue for the boats was so long! At least they were waiting in the shade!
Work finished and so off we went to the River Manzaneres, which is very pretty, but not a massive river. More like a stream actually. Poor Sergio must have been exhausted. However, we made up for it later with a delicious Indian meal!
There’s a great view back to the skyline of the city. It was also reasonably cool, with a pleasant breeze.Wow! Imagine hundreds of people dancing Latin American outside a church by the river. They were having so much fun.
I love cities at night. They come alive and the buildings look so spectacular lit up, particularly with a full moon behind them.
