Madrid Day 2

It was great to see where Sergio lives. It’s near a busy road, where actually there were dozens of police looking after demonstrations. Quite a common sight actually over the coming days.

Anyway, although it was noisy outside, his flat is a have, looking out on a lovely courtyard and garden. The flat is wonderfully spacious and airy.

We had a fabulous day looking around more of the city sights rather than parks. It’s a really clean city, and remarkably easy to get around. Public transport is great and I felt very safe all the time, whether above ground or in the metro. As a pedestrian you also feel at ease. Cars stop at pedestrian crossings and are also very courteous towards other drivers. There’s not the constant hooting you have in Italy!

Puerto del Sol - gate of sun.
Here we are in the Plaza Mayor , The biggest square.
I don’t think I have seen so many people in NZ in a year apart from at rugby matches !
Crazy buildings where you question how it was ever possible to put those horses and carriages on the roof!
The huge roundabout where Madrid celebrates all its sporting achievements. The building itself was closed, but it is majestic.
Certainly one of my favourite parks was the Parc del Retiro, ‘for the retired’, which was packed with people of all ages.
Thanks again to my very patient guide
For a brilliant insight into this grand capital of Spain.
