Leaving a magnificent autumn

So, my birthday week arrived and I was spoilt rotten by Mark, Emma and David.

What a great trip David and I had down to Wānaka. It was so good to have a driver so I could fully appreciate the incredible scenery en route. Lots of stops of course to savour the ever changing moods of the lakes.

There is not a more beautiful place in the world in autumn than Wānaka and its surroundings. It’s simply breathtaking and generally the weather is pretty reliable and there are generally fewer tourists. This year it was surprisingly busy  on the main routes, but as always our favourite track was almost just for us,

Below is one of my favourite places to stop and stare, wondering at the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Extraordinary colours, so vibrant, especially with the sun lighting up those fabulous leaves go gold, orange and red.

The Fisherman's Track never fails to thrill me with its magnificent golden poplars contrasting with the turquoise of the mighty Clutha River.

David’s shoes were well camouflaged,
Pictures can’t really do it justice. It’s just perfect.

That Wānaka Tree was attracting the masses, whilst I found the trees behind it even more gorgeous.

Homeward bound having dropped David off in Queenstown. How I love the drive through the Lindis Pass!

Back to Christchurch and to one of the most exciting moments in the past 15 years, since the earthquake which hit the city in February 2011. Now 24 th April our new stadium, Te Kaha ( the strength), NZ One stadium opened for a special three day Super Rugby. What a place! The stadium was full for the match and to top it off, our team, The Crusaders, won. A perfect evening shared with Mark.

No month can go by without a fantastic walk on Brighton Beach. Incredible autumn weather with blue skies and not a puff of wind,

Time to say farewell to Ryeland Avenue and Mike

and to savour one final look at my magnificent cherry tree, lit up by my house lights just as I was leaving. Strange to think it’ll be covered in blossom soon after I get home,

Leaving Christchurch. Every member of the crew engrossed in their devices! Not a word spoken! Strange world we live in!
