Whitelee wind farm, Burns country, Ayrshire coast, culzean castle. 30 August

John was my guide today with a group of 11 passengers. Like most of the Rabbies drivers, John was very funny and knowledgeable too..Because  trip didn't go so far, we were able to enjoy more of a relaxed pace even though we saw a lot.
The weather was fantastic.
One of the most interesting visits for me was to Windlee wind farm with its 216 turbines, making it the second largest in Europe. . It was the large until Poland built one with one more!
it can provide over 200,000 homes with electricity.
Tjis tour also stopped at Alloway and the Brig o' Doon, made famous by Burns' s poem Tam O'Shanter. It was great to go there again in perfect sunny conditions.
Burns memorial gardens looked much lovelier than on my previous visit.
We also got to go into Burns's home, where he and his 3 siblings were raised. Such a tiny cottage for the family and all their animals.
As we were enjoying the Ayrshire coast, John stopped for us at a very pretty little harbour where an episode of Outlander was filmed. I must watch the series now I've seen so many sets.
Of course, you can't go far along the coast without seeing one of the over 3000 castles in Scotland.
They love their dogs here. Nearly everyone has one
I love the choice on this menu.
The main focus of the day was on the fabulous Culzean castle, pronounced Culane. Not only is the castle interior very interesting but it's set in 120 hectares of grounds .
As always, there is a walled garden,  and also a swan pond.  There was a very interesting old building, the ice house, where they kept the ice from the frozen pond, using it to refrigerate their food.
With perfect weather, I didn't spend too long inside
The views along the Ayrshire coast were spectacular.
I so enjoyed my picnic on this rocky beach, totally alone.
I have decided that although I am a very sociable person, I really need solitude at times.
The gas house , where they stored gas for the house, was situated overlooking a fantastic beach. Sadly not enough time to explore it, but great to see it.
On the way home we passed Trump's golf course . Here is the club house
And the greens with his name on every available flag, behind these is his hotel. What opulence!
Back to basics, a funny name for a barber's shop.
It was such a great day out.
