Val Rosegg and Pontresina

Of course, I am frustrated that I can't help Marco with the running of the camps in Zuoz, but on the other hand, I have the joy of planning brilliant days of physical and cultural activities, like today!
As it was forecast to be very hot, I took the lazy way up to hotel Rosegg. A good decision as it turned out to be very sunny and hot en route down to Pontresina.
The Omnibus horse and carriage is the perfect way to go up about 300 metres in about 6.5 kilometres. Not a huge height difference, but a long walk. I always feel sorry for these horses, but can see they are well cared for.
What a gorgeous route, through the forests, with views of the distant mountains.
Past flooded rivers, pounding their way down the valley.
Until we reached the plateau with Hotel Rosegg. The first views of the snowcapped peaks and glaciers is simply breathtaking.
Time for our three hardworking horses to rest and afterwards feed.
What a magnificent sight this is. I was tempted to continue onwards to the glacier but after so much rain possibly making the track a bit tricky, and because it was already warm, I decided simply to return to Pontresina as much as possible through the forest rather than on the fairly busy road - carriages, walkers and bikers.
It could not have been a more perfect day, although it did get very hot later on where there was little shade.
Beautiful Alpenrose were in full bloom. It reminds me of Wengen, where I am heading next week.
I've never seen so much water in this river. As it flowed over little waterfalls, the sound was deafening.
The cool of the forest with its babbling brooks was so restful and enjoyable.
My lunch spot! What an incredible bench. So attractive.
Shortly after, I came across an area where there had been a rockfall. I've never ever seen so many Cairns in one spot. It was incredibly beautiful.
Just a little further on, the landscape had been changed dramatically in April when millions of tons of rock and stones slid towards the river.
The usual path has been blocked, obviously, though it's thought that there's no further danger of landslides.
No problem. I found a very nice path on the other side, with very few people on it because there were a few wettish areas. It followed the river downwards.
My timing was great. After walking through forest near Pontresina, I arrived at Thaiswald, a little clearing in the forest used for concerts. And in this lovely place, I and many others were treated to a wonderful concert, part of the jazz festival, by Thierry Lang. What a fantastic way to relax after a good walk!
What a day I had! I followed this up with an Italian film in Pontresina. Luckily I managed a 30 minute nap at the cinema during the adverts and trailers!  Super comfortable.
To top off a phenomenal day, there was a night market, Laret Markt, in Pontresina with great food and music. There I met up with friends and enjoyed the excellent singing of a couple whose band was called 'Naked'.  What a day of physical and cultural activities!
