Guarda to Ardez

A perfect day for one of my favourite walks from Guarda to Ardez. The little post bus luckily spares us the 200metre climb to this living museum. My first stop is always to the pottery which I have to thank for getting me started making pottery. I wanted to do a course there and decided I needed some knowledge. COVID prevented the course, but I love my pottery classes in NZ.
What a fantastic pottery this is, specialising in local animals and interesting, rather round ladies with very welcoming smiles.
Here an old home with toilet added to the side.
Who needs to plant a garden, when poppies spring up through the concrete paths. So pretty.
This village has undoubtedly some of the most elaborately painted houses, and luckily for me, dozens of fountains. It was really hot and I needed to keep filling up my drink bottle.
Once you leave Guarda, you have nothing but spectacular views over the Unter Engadine.
With such heavy downpours on Sunday, the little brooks had become mini waterfalls, crashing down the hills.
Beauty everywhere you look.
Then, just as my last drops of water were used up, there was the lovely village of Ardez below me. Interestingly, it's not well known with tourists, but it has just as many beautifully decorated houses as Guards. Luckily for the locals, because they are not overrun with visitors.
I just love all these earthy colours, made even more spectacular by the blue skies.
Wood piles seem to be a speciality here.
People ask me how it is to travel alone, and I must say in places like the Engadine, it's perfect because you can stop and admire everything around you.
It's a really special place.
