The Sassi of Matera 15.05
Another 3 hours of great lessons and I am starting to feel more and more confident, understanding so much more than just three days ago.
After class, and my super cheap lunch of delicious focaccia, I wandered down the Sasso Barisano to enjoy the views back to where we'd been last night. So special!
So many caves in the limestone hills high above the shallow river. Apparently more water runs underground than above.
Another fabulous work of art by Andrea Roggi. He also did these in addition to the first photo on this blog.
.So many people were heading down to it but I am happy to view from above. No need to tick boxes!
Unfortunately, whenever you descend in this city, there are copious stairs to climb back up.
However, it's all worth it for all the great nooks and crannies.
Even the restaurants are either up or down several flights of stairs.Fortunately, there's ice cream, even in automatic vending machines. I haven't been desperate enough to try those yet, as there is plenty of fresh Gelato.
I always thought the Lumiere in Christchurch was one of the most elegant cinemas, but this one I visited tonight was amazing, in an old palace. Great film too, Senza prove, without proof.
Another brilliant day
