The City of Luxembourg

Michèle was a first class guide around her beautiful city of Luxembourg . We were hugely fortunate with weather and as we arrived at the most scenic spot of the train trip , the train had to stop for a while, giving me plenty of time to admire the deep valley below. It's incredible.

All public transport in Luxembourg is free. I believe it's the only place in the world !
Luxembourg city is a fabulous mix of the original old city, both up on the hills and in the valley, and very attractive modern highrise buildings on the plateau.
Luxembourg station is very impressive and ornate, with its mapped ceiling and stained glass windows.
It's a calm city, being largely pedestrianised, with excellent public transport running frequently to all parts of the city. What fantastic infrastructure. I felt very envious.
After a delicious lunch, we visited Mudan museum of contemporary art. I have to admit to not being into this type of art, but there were some fascinating exhibits, like the one above
An even more unfathomable exhibit was this huge hall filled with 12,000 flowerpots containing dead pansies. Apparently, two weeks ago they were magnificent and now dead. . nobody could give a good explanation of what the artist was showing us, especially as the exhibition goes  untll September .
Luxembourgish, a fascinating language, a true mix of many neighbouring languages..
' if you are tired, please sit here '.
From the museum we descended to the River Ansett and thoroughly enjoyed the river bank walk, the incredible viaduct and the quiet  lanes.
We had a well- earned rest by an old monastery with these fantastic views of the old city walls
Then luckily there was a lift back to the top.
I particularly loved this older part of the city, and the panorama from the top of the walls was spectacular. We had virtually covered most of what we could see!
There were areas of the old town which really reminded me of Zurich.
The last thing we did was to visit an old cinema which specialises in old film. It was great. We saw a Spanish documentary/ film 'en mis Zapatos', a very moving true story of a man looking after his mother of 87, who had Alzheimer's.
Back home to 6 cats and 3 dogs. What a paradise for animals and animal lovers!
Thanks for a wonderful stay in 'the most beautiful grand duchy in the world '!
