Nyon and the vineyards 25.05

This trip is everything I dreamt it would be. Virtually every day has been different, different cultures, homes, languages, food and experiences. And now, here I am back in Switzerland, my third home, in the little town of Nyon on Lac Léman. It was lovely to return to the hotel I always book when I come here, tucked into the little cobbled streets of the pedestrianised old town. What a sharp contrast to the Spanish quarter!
The two days here are primarily to see friends, but also to enjoy this gorgeous area close to Geneva.
I spent my first day with Fred and family, walking on trails through the hillside vineyards. I love the pretty wee villages dotted around
And the splendid views through the vines to the lake. On a clear day, we might have seen the majestic Mont Blanc, but not today.
Everything seems so lush, so clean, so peaceful!
Even in Nyon itself, they are working hard to beautify the town. These wildflowers at the roadside were so pretty.
The zigzag pathway from the castle to the lake leads us through vegetable and flower gardens, with little pockets of grapevines. It's a fantastic place to walk and enjoy the fabulous views.
I was so lucky. I was just meandering and suddenly found myself in the midst of a spring market with all sorts of local food, wine and plants. A great place to spend an hour enjoying a local Rose before going to dinner at Fred's.
After a delicious BBQ dinner, their resident hedgehog, Bobby, came to visit. So cute.
Before meeting Jo and Ineke, school friend and wife, I wandered down to have a quick look at some of the second hand stalls. Huge market here last Sunday of the month.
Wonderful lunch as always here. The perché fillets from the lake are tender and tasty.
Time to say ' farewell ' for a few years. It's so good to be able to combine visits to friends and family with travel. Perfect combination.
Next stop Luxembourg! A new destination for me and a chance to catch up with my friend, ex Airbnb guest, Michelle.
