Last lovely morning in Ischia and arrival in Naples 22.05

A final swim at the beach near our appartment. We were always alone in the water, which was a perfect temperature for us, but maybe not for the locals! A wonderful start to the day.
Having a few hours left, we decided to make the most of our time on this truly stunning island. We went back to the castle to see it with different clouds and mostly blue sky. What a great decision! It looked phenomenal and the sun rays just lit up the cliffs.
Those beautiful Sorrento lemons, nowhere near as bitter as most, perfect for a salad.
I love some of the decor they have here. High heels most appropriate!
Wow, that dark cloud just got darker and darker and looked so heavy it would shed its load. It didn't and just added a further spectacular dimension to the panorama.
The contrast of colours was so gorgeous.
Back at the apartment, we said farewell to our magnificent bougainvillea. What a great place it was to stay.
A few hours later after a ferry ride, we arrived in Naples. What a dramatic contrast - the calm and slow pace of life suddenly became a frenzy of crazy drivers of cars, electric bikes and Vespas, tooting, lane changing, gesticulating and shouting. It was so unbelievably noisy!
Our little appartment was at the top of the Spanish quarter, where Maradona, who played for Napoli for years, was revered like a god. The photo shows s typical street in the area with so many shops, people and usually vespas. Each street was narrow, with 90 degree corners and with mopeds and cars parked anywhere. Our driver deserved a medal for getting us there!
What an experience it was, and what a first impression ! I felt I wanted to go back to Ischia immediately.
Our rooms were on the top of a 6-storey block, pretty old and with some very suspect wiring. Fortunately, there was a lift, which required 10cents a trip. Slowly the tiny lift got us to the top. Unfortunately last week there was an earthquake in Naples, so looking out of our kitchen window at the cracked wall opposite didn't make me feel more at ease! However, we were there and I was determined to make the most of it.
There were areas of exquisite beauty, like the Umberto I galleries, four of them. Unbelievably, they housed Subway and McDonald's! You would imagine chic fashion stores!
We had a pizza at a little place in the Spanish quarter. We sat outside, on pretty uncomfortable sloping seats, to better savour the madness of this place. Hundreds of vespas, bikes and occasional cars zoomed past us, cleverly turning corners whilst avoiding pedestrians and traffic, tooting crazily, but apparently all totally in control.
I do wonder how long driving instructors live in Naples?
Anyway, it was an amazing start to our stay, and the pizzas were fantastic.
