Stintino and Alghero
The coastal road south is spectacular and landscape changes frequently as the road follows the coast and then heads inland towards the foothills.
Just outside Castelsardo we found Elephant rock. From this side it was interesting to see how the rock has been eroded
And from the other side, the naturally sculpted rock really did look like an elephant. It stood out with the backdrop of wonderfully fertile plains.
Stintino is probably one of the most popular spots to bathe in the area area. The colour of the water is just incredible. In the distance across the shallow turquoise sea is Asinara, a nature reserve. Sadly no time to arrange a visit there today.
However, we made the most of pre-June, pre-crowd bathing and headed to Pelosa beach, the most famous in the area due to the pristine sand and clearest of clear water. From 1 June, you pay for parking and to get on the beach, plus for a sun lounger and umbrella. It is an expensice affair!. In summer 'only' 1500 are permitted at one time on the 300m beach! We were there 31st May - no parking or beach fees, and apart from a few dozen others, we had the place to ourselves. It was surreal and the water a perfect temperature to offset the heat of the day.
It was great to be back in Alghero and to show Guni around. It is really a picturesque place to visit and a wonderful place to base yourself to visit this fabulous coast.
