Cagliari to Olbia
Back at Geneva airport after five lovely days with lots of friends, I am on my way to Wales. So excited at the thought of seeing family again and meeting newcomers Mabli and Betsi, my great great mieces!
5 days after I was in Sardinia, I am on the final day of my blog!
Cagliari market was a colourful, noisy affair on three floors. Everything looked so fresh, but unfortunately I didn't need anything. Leaving the next day meant it was impossible to buy the delicious- looking cheese, meat, fruit and vegetables.
The displays were wonderful
The colours so bright and inviting.
Time to leave Cagliari to travel about 300 kms to Olbia. Due to the heat, we decided to take the motorway to have time in Olbia for a beach visit. It was a good idea and a great road through the hills from west to east.
We turned off to see the picturesque, little church of Zuri, which had been moved from the original village of Zuri when the area was flooded to create one of Europe' s largest artificial lakes, Lake Omodeo. We really wanted to get to the lakeside so turned off on what seemed a tourist road , with a brown signpost, to the lake. It was another adventure and great test of Guni's skill. After the first curve it was clear few people used the one lane gravel road, overgrown, with huge potholes and deep sand at times. There was no shade so back we went, happy to get back on the motorway again!

Santa Lucia was a fabulous oasis, with delicious gelato and a very pleasant sea breeze.

The graffiti was brilliant.

Getting a little lost, we ended up on Posada beach, a great way to finish the day

The only issue with all beaches is the lack of toilets. Usually they are locked and you get a key from the cafe, a fair way away, if it is open!

After numerous issues with our accommodation in Olbia, we found a fabulous restaurant for our parting dinner. It was a good moment to try swordfish ravioli (yum) and for dessert Seadas, sweet but tasty.
The last day we had time for a final stop on a small beach outside Olbia, Le Saline. The salt marsh and the backdrop of mountains was very pretty.

A final paddle in the warm waters and our holiday was over. What an amazing place Sardinia is! I loved it, even with the heatwave!

Looking forward to seeing friends around Geneva and then to some weeks of family
