Wanaka - autumn Gold 2022

Poor Mike was blissfully unaware that he would be left alone for a few days!
That Wanaka tree may have lost a branch years ago, but has certainly not lost its appeal to photographers. What a wonderful setting for this now world-famous tree!

The lake is so low at present that there is a wonderful new beach for kiddies to explore, with perfect paddling pools and sand to play with. Fantastic too for adults who just want to wonder at the sheer beauty of the area and the stunning, wispy cloud formations.
The Easter air show was cancelled, but we were treated to a brilliant one man show doing loops and fly pasts just in front of us. The flypasts were so low, the plane barely seemed to clear the magnificent poplars along the shores of Lake Wanaka.

What a wonderful birthday present to have both Mark and David there in Wanaka and to enjoy absolutely delicious Italian-style pizzas at the lovely Hook restaurant.

Next day it was time to get out and about from Glendhu Bay to do my favourite walk towards Waterfall Creek, this time even more spectacular than usual with such vivid colours and clear skies.

The scenery is so stunning you just have to stop and stare.
And again it was special for all of us to be there together.

Mount Aspiring in the centre in the background showed up so well against the blue of the sky, the golden leaves and the datk mountains in the foreground.

Next day, whilst Matk and David played golf in perfect conditions, I enjoyed a longish walk from Bremner Bay towards the Outlet of Lake Wanaka. With so many bikers on the track, I chose to walk along the beach, which was easily done with the water so far out. The photo below was taken a good 100 metres from the shore. What breathtaking reflections.

I so enjoyed and appreciated the peace and tranquility of the beaches. Not a soul around. How special to have this glorious place with its magnificent scenery and colours all to myself.

Cloud formations were phenomenal and the beach area with its dark rocks scattered around seemed extraordinary.

It was a brief long weekend visit, but we fitted a lot in as usual. The last morning, David and I walked along the river by Albertown . Wow, the colour of the poplars was incredible, and something I hope I will not forget until the next autumn! What fantastically vivid contrasts of sky, trees and river.

As I get older, I realise more and more how these 'little' experiences with those who are most special to you are some of the 'biggest' moments in life.

What a very special place Wanaka is, and what marvelous memories I take away with me.

Goodbye autumn gold ,for another year.
