Home sweet home!

Whilst most of the world was at a standstill, we were fortunate enough to continue life as normal, apart from closed borders. I made the most of the fantastic Summertimes activities, just in case we suddenly went up a level or two, which would lead to cancellations or postponements. Actually, only at the start of March did we experience some restrictions, but only for a short time.
Friday Evening concerts, classical, jazz and music of the musicals, in Victoria were very popular and glorious in the late afternoon sunshine. As we basked in the pleasant rays of evening sunshine, we were joined by quarantined guests on their balconies in the highrise appartments overlooking the square. I am sure they were happy to have something special to break up the 14 days in isolation.

Sunday afternoon jazz concerts in the gardens of The Old Stone House were so restful and such a pleasant way to spend 3 hours. We were treated to some great music, including internationally acclaimed violinist, Fiona Pears. Bring a picnic and drinks or enjoy platters and drinks from the bar. Fantastic!

The sign on the iconic cathedral said it all and certainly shows the Kiwi mentality to a certain degree.

I enjoyed a wonderful evening over at Robinson's Bay near Akaroa. The view from the bedroom at Liz and Brian's house is absolutely sensational.

Autumn is coming and so it is that time of year when walking through Little Hagley, one is deafened by the noise of  the male cicadas. I just love to find the skins they shed onto the trunks of the trees.

With life back to normal, we could enjoy some incredible exhibitions too - Van Gogh Alive being one of the most beautiful art experiences I have ever had. The images, the music, the light and the subtle fragrances all added to this memorable visit. Seeing the train chugging along, the birds flying, the sunflowers swaying in the breeze brought those paintings to life. Some of his writings were exceptionally meaningful and beautiful.

My own garden was also a joy to while away some hours in. I was thrilled to manage to provide enough swan plants to raise a few magnificent monarch butterflies.

As the days passed uneventfully, we had a reminder that we do live on shaky land. A big quake up North triggered tsunami warnings in many coastal areas, ( fortunately there were no tsunamis), and just as I was about to enjoy one of my favourite Estuary walks, I got a telephone alert to keep away from the coast, even down South. As the water was lapping at the jetty, which is usually 2metres off the sand, I decided that I should heed the advice

Not only have I enjoyed my walks, concerts and gardens, but also some very exciting Super Rugby Aotearoa matches. Our Crusaders have been unbeatable thus far. We are really hoping for yet another tournament win!

Summer would not be summer without these stunning sunflowers. Their fabulous blooms light up the sky!

How I have appreciated these marvellous summer months, full of fantastic activities of all types. We are so lucky to have been able to experience and enjoy  them!
