Spring has sprung 2020 - August and September

The season of spectacular blooms are both outside in the gardens and also in restaurants!
Mona Vale is simply spectacular with its wonderful daffodil parks and its huge magnolias next to the lovely water lily pond. What a paradise.
O,k,
I had an interesting walk with friends around the city, admiring the fabulous street art. This one was particularly impressive. It was just next to the Courts, where only the next week NZ's  most despicable murderer of all time would be sentenced to life in prison with no parole for  his shooting spree in Christchurch mosques last year. I spent many hours after the sentencing trying to imagine life without the freedom to enjoy our lovely country and its fantastic seasons.

Daffodil Day was the day set aside to raise money for the Cancer Society. Otahuna Lodge, one of the most majestic heritage homes in Canterbury, offered the opportunity to join a guided tour around the superb, lovingly-tended gardens..

The grand finale was this breathtakingly beautiful daffodil lawn

Wordsworth's famous lines sprang to mind:

When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Of course, I can't keep away from the beach for long, especially with the incredible weather we have been having. Back in level 2 after Covid cases once again surfaced in Auckland, , the beach is a perfect place to get away from crowds! Even these gulls were distancing from others.

The beach actually had more dogs than people on it. This crazy hound raced up and down the beach trying to catch a gull. It was such fun watching her.

And as before, the outgoing tide had left such gorgeous pools, shining like diamonds.

On the banks of the Estuary, these oyster catchers looked so lovely

and in the distance the Southern Alps with their fresh coating of snow were breathtaking.

We live in such a glorious country here, I just love so much about it, not only the sheer beauty around us, but also the weird and wacky things, like this house in Lyttelton, with the washing hanging up on the fence. Where else in the world would you see this?

It has certainly been a perfect start to spring, especially watching Big Mike curled up beside me as I write this!
