Rotorua to Tairua

Due to some torrential downpours, flooding, gales, closed roads and mudslides, we had to change our plans and stay in Rotorua instead of going to the coast to Ohope. It turned out to be a perfect solution as it gave us time to enjoy an afternoon at the Polynesian spa pools with their views over Lake Rotorua. It was a heavenly way to spend the afternoon.

We nearly changed our plans too for Coromandel, but thankfully we did not and by the time we set off north, the roads had reopened and we had near perfect weather for the entire drive. Brilliant!
Our first stop was Whangamata, which is a famous surfing beach in the south of the Coromandel.
It was a brilliant lunch stop.

We arrived at our absolutely terrific appartment, Coastal Heights, in Tairua. It was the most remarkable place to stay for two days. The little rainbow as we arrived made the view even more breathtakingly beautiful. We spent both nights sitting outside listening to the waves, whilst catching up on the past months over a very good glass of New Zealand wine!!

The view from the top of the hill we were staying on, was again well worth the effort of clambering up the dozens of stairs!

I  certainly could not understand why several people were surprised that I had chosen Tairua as a place to stay. It was fantastic.
